I found this book delightful in both pictures and words. I enjoyed how Kerley presents both main characters side by side and then merges them together after they met. This technique allows the reader to see just how different John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were as well as the commonalities that brought them together. Fotheringham does a fantastic job with the illustrations. The cartoonish nature of the illustrations adds humor and emotional expression. I especially liked the maps that showed the connections and distance between Great Britain and the colonies. I appreciated the appropriately placed quotes from both Adams and Jefferson. Overall, I'd say this is a great book for introducing the people and events that lead to the creation of the United States of America.
I'm biased being a huge Revolutionary War dork, but this was a great, accurate, picture book about two very interesting friends. The text is fun to read with good information, and the pictures add to the depth of the story. This book gives John Adams his due for his role in the revolution, and does not make Thomas Jefferson out to be more than the man he was. Great book for a mini-lesson in the classroom, or just fun to read with your child.
This is my favorite book I have for my grandson. It tells the story of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson and the differences they had but how they were great friends when they died. Great history book for kids.
Kids book for school assignment.
This book is an excellent introduction to two of our most important "Founding Fathers". From it youngsters ....and their elders who read or discuss the book with them ...will learn that these men were real people, and not just historical figures. More importantly, also learned is that they were gentlemen. When they disagreed (which was often) they chose ways to disagree which were civil. The country, and the world, could learn much from them today. Recommended!
This is going to be a great addition to our library and history books. The first reading my boys loved it!
A wonderful book about a real person, perfect for elementary students.
Clever great way to get kids attention about our founders
